Calculator Use

The graphing scientificand multi-function computers are acceptable or used in certain practice (r) tests. Unless specifically stated that a calculator is permitted for a particular test Calculators are not allowed to be utilized.

Test takers aren't allowed to use calculators in a shared manner.

Tests That Do Not Permit Use of a Calculator

In general, unless specifically stated that a specific type of calculator is permitted or necessary for a specific test, calculators cannot be used in all test. test.

Tests That Permit the Use of a Calculator

You may use a four-function or scientific calculator for your Middle School: Content Knowledge (5146) test, even though you are not required to use one. You are required to bring your own calculator to the testing center. One is not provided during the examination center. A graphing calculator cannot be allowed during this test.

Types of CalculatorsThat Are Not Permitted

The following items are not allowed for Praxis test:

  • Portable/handheld computers or laptops
  • Electronic writing pads
  • Models with pen-input/stylus/touch-screen capability
  • Calculators on any phones watches, electronic devices
  • Models equipped with QWERTY or other alphabetic keys as part of hardware or software
  • Models with printers
  • Models that make noise or "talk"
  • models that need an outlet
  • Models that have access to the internet, as well as have either wireless, or Bluetooth (r) capability.
  • Models with cameras that can scan or scan, as well as digital audio/video player recording/player capabilities

In addition, the use of any hardware peripheral is not allowed.

Calculators provided by test takers are not allowed in Praxis tests which have calculators on screen.

The following Praxis tests include an on-screen graphing calculator. The tests use an TI-84 Plus CE calculator. A tutorial is available to ensure that you may practice using the calculator's on-screen interface prior to your test day.
